Glicko Rankings

Why Glicko? The official Saber Tour uses an ATP-style points system where results at specific events earn fixed points. This rewards consistency and volume but doesn't account for the strength of opponents faced. Glicko is a probabilistic rating system — your rating goes up more when you beat a highly-rated opponent, and barely moves when you beat someone much lower. It also tracks rating deviation (RD), a measure of confidence: fighters with few bouts have a high RD, meaning their true skill is uncertain.

Conservative score is rating minus one RD — a lower-bound estimate of true skill. It penalises fighters with few matches who may have inflated ratings from a lucky run. The conservative rank is often a more honest picture than the raw Glicko rank.

Δ Tour shows how each fighter's official Tour rank compares to their Glicko rank. A positive number (green) means the Tour ranks them higher than Glicko does — they may be benefiting from volume or favourable event selection. Negative (red) means Glicko thinks they're underrated by the official standings.

Data covers 29 competitions from Breizh Open 2023 to Open des Gaules 2026. Each competition is treated as one Glicko rating period. Brittany (BRE) is listed separately from France as clubs there consistently compete as a distinct regional bloc.
